The BSF Intelligence Branch was after the accused smuggler since then. Consequently, today (March 21, 2022) BSF hot success when a person named Rohit Mandal surrendered himself to the officials of Border Outpost Dobarpara,158 Battalion , due to the special operation.
The accused smuggler has confessed that he was smuggling the gold biscuits those were seized on March 17, 2022. The accused smuggler disclosed that he is involved in smuggling activities for the last 10 years. The smuggler revealed that he has been doing gold smuggling for Suman Ghosh (Village-English, Thana- Gaighata, District North 24 Parganas). He disclosed that he had taken gold biscuits from a Bangladeshi man (Tuhin, Village-Putkhali, PS-Sharsa, District- Jessore, Bangladesh) on March 17, 2022, on the banks of Ichhamati River. He was trying to cross the duty point of the Border Security Force. Border Security Force troops saw him but he ran away out of fear and threw gold biscuits which were in a Towel(Gamcha) on the way. The smuggler revealed that then he had gone to Bangladesh from there.
The apprehended smuggler has been handed over to Customs Office Petrapole for further legal action.
Smugglers should leave the path of smuggling, Commanding Officer
Shri Harendra Singh Tomar, Commanding Officer of 158 Battalion stated that smugglers should leave the path of smuggling, BSF is taking stringent steps to stop smuggling, due to which the plans of the smugglers are constantly being dashed down , as a result, many smugglers in the area have joined the main stream of livelihood. On one hand the Commanding Officer expressed happiness over the surrender of smuggler like Rohit Mandal and on the other hand inspired other smugglers of the area to surrender. He added that leaving the path of smuggling and joining the mainstream, otherwise people with wrong intentions will not be spared.
