Sikkim Chief Minister requested for the Union Finance Minister to examine the request of the state government to provide a special package for the COVID-19 pandemic

Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang called on the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at New Delhi on Tuesday.

During the call with Union Finance Minister CM Tamang expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to place the proposal about imposing of cess on the output of Pharma products produced within the boundaries of Sikkim.

Sikkim Chief Minister also requested for the Government of India to examine the request of the state government to provide a special package of assistance to tide over the financial stress caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

As suggested by the GOM regarding the special package, CM Tamang stated that the state government has prepared a first support proposal and a road map in the report for the revival of the economy of Sikkim.

The Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman agreed to support the state through a special package to fill the gaps of the GST and similar taxes which has decreased due to the pandemic.
