On this day, August 13, 1891, Manipur prince Bir Tikendrajit and General Thangal were hanged publicly at the park by the British for waging war against the empire. The day is considered a red-letter day in the history of Manipur.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh tweet, ” On this Patriot’s Day, remembering the brave sons of Manipur, Yuvraj Tikendrajit Singh & Thangal General, who laid down their lives while defending the sovereignty of Manipur against the Mighty British. My humble tributes to our fallen heroes who have made the supreme sacrifice.”
Bir Tikendrajit and General Thangal was a great patriot and prince of the northeastern states of India Manipur. Who laid down his life during India’s struggle for Independence.
They are called the ‘Lion of Manipur’ as he fearlessly fought against the British.
