Union Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman performed Bhoomi Pujan of 120 MW Lower Kopili Hydro Electric Project at Longku, Dima Hasao in Assam today.
The estimated cost of the project is $297 million and is funded by the Asian Development Bank, Government of India and Government of Assam.
The project, expected to be completed by June 2024, will increase electricity supply from clean energy by 469 GWh by 2025 and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 360K tons annually. The project will provide pollution-free green energy, boost the tourism potential of the region and will enhance direct and indirect employment opportunities for many people of the downstream areas.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also laid the foundation stone of upgradation of work from Haflong Tiniali to Lower Haflong, under the Asian Development Bank aided Assam Road Network Improvement Project (ARNIP) in Dima Hasao district.
Assam CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present on this ocessation.
