The troops of South Bengal Frontier, BSF while foiling the smuggling attempts, have continuously defeated the plans of smugglers for some time. In this sequence, on 09 January 2022, 02 smugglers were apprehended with 50 kg of ganja at ICP Petrapole. The estimated value of the seized Ganja and the truck is Rs.18,50,000/-.
On January 09, 2022, 179 battalion, Sector Kolkata, Border Security Force troops were on routine checking of a vehicle carrying import and export goods between Bangladesh and India at ICP Petrapole (International Boundary). At around 1100 hrs, the jawans noticed a suspicious Indian truck (HR 55 AF 7277) approaching the railway crossing inside the ICP, which was trying to move towards the cargo complex to collect goods of imports. When the troops stopped him and searched him, five big packets were recovered from inside the cabin of the truck, from which 50 kg of ganja was found. The troops seized the ganja and the truck and took the smugglers into custody for further questioning. Both the apprehended smugglers have been identified as Babu Lal Meghwal (driver), age – 28 years, and Wasim Khan (helper), age – 28 years, District – Alwar, Rajasthan.
During interrogation, the apprehended smuggler Babulal Meghwal revealed that he had bought all these ganja packets from Brahmapur, Odisha for Rs 20,000 which was to be handed over to a person named Junaid (District-Jhajjar, Haryana). For this work he was to get Rs 15,000/-. As soon as he reached inside the ICP, BSF troops apprehended him and helper Wasim Khan with ganja inside the truck during checking.
Both the apprehended smugglers (driver and helper) and the seized ganja have been handed over to the Police Station Petrapole for further legal proceedings.
Public Relations Officer, South Bengal Frontier expressed happiness over the achievement of 179 battalion troops, in which they apprehended 02 smugglers and seized 50 kg of ganja while thwarting the smuggling attempts. He stated that this has been possible only because of the alertness displayed by his jawans on duty. The officer clearly stated that nothing can hide from the eyes of his troops. He also added that he also has a great team to give accurate information related to smuggling.
