Assam power sector marching triumphantly due to goodwill and support of people of Assam: State BJP

Owing to the bold step taken by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Power Minister Bimal Bora and goodwill of the people of Assam, the power sector is now marching triumphantly”. BJP spokesperson Rupam Goswami made the statement while praising the state power department. In a press statement, spokesperson Goswami said due to the support extended by the people in response to the state Government’s appeal to pay electricity bills on time and to follow the rules and regulations of the power department has helped to revive the power sector which was earlier reeling under financial crisis. He said that the department has been able to garner revenue to the tune of Rs 682.27 crore in July 2021 which was a whopping amount by any standard. Similarly, revenue to the tune of Rs 630.28 crore in August, Rs 615.12 crore in September, Rs 568.07 in October, Rs 577.58 crore in November, Rs 488.45 crore in December and Rs 439.99 crore in January 2022 were collected by the state government.

The state power department has not only been able to augment the power scenario but also earned appreciation from different quarters. Goswami hoped the manner in which the people of state extended support to the government for development of the power sector, they will continue to support the future endeavours of the government in all spheres.

Goswami further said that the BJP led state government has taken many laudable initiatives to make the power supply smooth and hassle-free and to prevent misuse of power by procuring 9,000 numbers of transformers, 70 numbers of re-construction of compact sub-stations, eleven numbers power transformers and repairing of 4,200 numbers of transformers at an estimated cost of Rs 250.08 crore. The party spokesperson also said that the government has given the approval to provide electricity connections to 4,80,249 families at a cost of Rs 1,718.18 crore, installation of a smart meter for improvement of the billing system and 6,20,100 smart meters to prevent commercial losses. Moreover, the cabinet has approved the tax relief amounting to Rs 480 crore to Jeevan Dhara(BPL) and LT commercial and industrial consumers in the financial year 2021-22. This initiative will not only benefit the existing over 12 lakhs BPL families who are now getting free electricity connections but also to more than 45 lakh low-income domestic consumers.
