BSF FOILED THE SMUGGLING ATTEMPT AND APPREHENDED A SMUGGLER WITH 10.46 KG SILVER

On April 04, 2022, Border Security Force troops under South Bengal Frontier, proving their commitment to duty, once again thwarted the plans of smugglers and apprehended 01 smuggler with 10.466 kg of silver ornaments on the spot. The estimated value of the seized silver is Rs.5,02,699/-. The smugglers were trying to take these silver ornaments from India to Bangladesh.

Smuggler used to prepare small packets for smuggling in the border rural area.

On April 04, 2022, based on strong information, the soldiers of BSF Border Outpost Hakimpur, 112 Battalion, Sector Kolkata secretly planned an operation. A temporary tin shed located outside Swaroopada village (border village) was raided at around 2230 hrs, from inside which a smuggler was apprehended with 10.466 kgs of silver jewellery. The smuggler was preparing all these silver ornaments for smuggling by filling them in small plastic packets. On seeing the BSF jawans, the smuggler panicked and tried to run away from the spot, but the vigilant jawans apprehended the smuggler without giving any chance. The jawans seized all the packets and took the smuggler into custody for questioning. The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Mahid Sardar, age – 35 years, Village + Post Office – Hakimpur, Police Station – Swaroopnagar, District – North 24 Parganas, West Bengal.

During interrogation smuggler revealed that he is regularly involved in smuggling for the last few days. This morning (April 04) he had taken all these silver jewelery from smuggler Mustafa Dalal (Village-Bithari, PS- Swaroopnagar). After crossing the BSF duty line, these phensedyl was to be handed over to a Bangladeshi smuggler Md Asadullah (Village- Bhadli, Satkhira). For this he was to get Rs 3000 / – from Mustafa Dalal. But when he was preparing for smuggling by filling all these silver ornaments in small plastic packets, BSF suddenly raided and apprehended him with silver.

The apprehended smugglers and the seized silver ornaments have been handed over to Customs Office Tentulia for further legal proceedings.

Narayan Chand, Commanding Officer, 112 Battalion expressed happiness over the achievements of the jawans in thwarting smuggling attempts. He stated that this has been possible only because of the alertness displayed by his jawans on duty. The officer clearly stated that nothing can hide from the eyes of his troops. He also added that he also has an excellent team to provide accurate information related to smuggling, which keeps a close watch on the criminal activities taking place in the border area.
