Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav “Freedom Trek” successfully organised

Chief Secretary to the Government of Mizoram Dr. Renu Sharma flagged off a 5.5-kilometer “Freedom Trek” from Khuangchera Hall, Ailawng yesterday, the event was organised to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence (Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav).

Explaining the significance of the occasion, the Chief Secretary said Freedom Trek is organised to remember and pay homage to freedom fighters and at the same time to promote clean and green tourism in Mizoram. She thanked all the participants for their enthusiasm and support, she also congratulated the Tourism department for successfully organising the event.

About 300 trekkers participated in the Freedom Trek, the oldest participant is H.S Lalsanga, a 92-year-old man from Bethlehem Veng, Aizawl. Officials from the Tourism Department, and the Government of Manipur also participated in the event.

To promote responsible tourism and advocate a single-use plastic ban, all the trekkers were provided paper bag and advised to pick up trash and litter along the trail.
