Indian Coast Guard and Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) co-ordinated Area Level Pollution Response Exercise on 18 May 2022 to generate awareness and augment synergy towards developing response mechanisms for any Oil Spill in the West Bengal maritime domain. The exercise was conducted with the aim to test the preparedness of various stake holders and agencies as part of contingency plan for oil spill.
The exercise was attended by representatives from various stake holders viz. Kolkata Port Trust, MCPI, AVR Tank Terminal Pvt Ltd, Indroma India Pvt Ltd, IOCL Haldia Refinery, HPL, Reliance Haldia Terminals, AEGIS Logistics Ltd, BPCL, HPCL.
The area level exercise was inaugurated by Deputy Inspector General Pankaj Verma, Coast Guard Commander (WB) who appreciated active participation by all stake holders and emphasized on execution & effective implementation of National Oil Spill Disaster Contingency Plan (NOSDCP).
The exercise commenced at Coast Guard Hoverport with presentations by domain experts from Coast Guard/ HDC and culminated with practical demonstration of pollution response equipment undertaken by Haldia dock complex. The exercise not only assisted in providing insight into the functioning of pollution response equipment but also in imparting first hand information to all stake holders.
