Kargil Vijay Divas is celebrated at State War Memorial, Dighali Phukhuri, Guwahat on 26 Jul 2022, as being done since 2018 by the Directorate of Saink Welfare, Assam. Minister of Water Resources, Parliamentary Affairs, Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. If Assam.
Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika was the Chief Guest. During the event wreaths were laid on the ‘Amar Jawan’ to pay tribute to the Martyrs of 1999 Kargil War.
The family members of Kargil martyrs from the state were invited and honoured by the Minister on behalf of the Govt of Assam. Service personnel from Narangi Army Camp, veterans from the city of Guwahati and members of Lions Club Guwahati were present who jointly participated in the celebration to pay tribute to the brave martyrs and admiration for the courageous defence personnel who successfully evicted the Pakistani regulars from Kargil heights in a 67 day long operation under the most difficult conditions. In this military operation 527 men in uniform were martyred to restore the honour of our motherland.
In operation Vijay (Kargil War) three Army personnel from the state of Assam were martyred namely Captain Jintu Gogoi, VC, Havildar Narain Singha and Gunner Udhab Das made the supreme sacrifice in the best tradition of our Armed Forces.
