The Army Service Corps Motorcycle Display Team “Tornadoes” today reached Shillong, Meghalaya as part of its 2600 km motorcycle expedition in the North Eastern region.
The team of fifteen riders commenced its expedition from Tezpur, Assam on October 1 and the journey will culminate at Gajraj War Memorial, Tezpur on 17 October covering the distance of 2600 km in 17 days.
The team, led by Major Ramya Venkat and Captain AS Grewal, will pay homage at the War Memorial in Shillong before being flagged off by Lt Gen KC Panchanathan, GOC ,101 Area on October 9.
The Army Service Corps will celebrate its 11th Reunion and 262nd Corps Day on December 8, 2022 and the expedition is to commemorate the rich history of the Corps and pay homage to the brave Soldiers and Martyrs who served the nation.
The riders will pay homage to Martyrs at various War Memorials in the North Eastern States of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya and Nagaland. The expedition that was flagged off from Tezpur passed through Tenga Valley, Bomdila, Sela Pass, Tawang, Fwd Posts of Tawang, Kalaktang and Guwahati.
“Tornadoes” have an impressive 32 World Records with the count increasing every year. The team is stationed at ASC Centre (South), Bangalore and has 39 Riders of two Officers, two Junior Commissioned Officers and 35 Other Ranks.
For the past 55 years, Tornadoes have displayed their skills in thousands of shows across the length and breadth of the country. The team has also represented India six times at the International level in Bhutan. The team set nine World Records in November 2020 under various categories, such as the longest ride through Tunnel of Fire and the highest and fastest pyramids. The team also undertook a winter expedition to the Karakoram Pass covering over 2500 Km in 22 days.
