The FIH Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 is going to be held in Bhubaneswar – Rourkela (Odisha) from 13th January to 29th January 2023.
To promote the World Cup 2023 Hockey India is organising a FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup Trophy Tour in India. The Trophy will be brought from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata on 6th December 2022 by Swapan Banerjee , President and Istiyak Ali,Secretary General of Hockey Bengal.
The prestigious Trophy will be kept at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Eden Gardens, Kolkata tomorrow evening for Public viewing.
The World Cup Trophy has a Silver Cup surmounted by a Globe of the World made of Silver and Gold and on top is a hockey stick and ball.
The Trophy is 26 inches in height and weighs 11kgs 560grams (11,560g) – 895g Gold, 6,815g Silver, 350g Ivory and 3,500g Teak.
FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup was started in 1971 where Pakistan won Gold defeating Spain 1-0. India won Bronze beating Kenya 2-1.
In the 1973 Amstelveen, Netherlands World Cup India won Silver. In the 1975 Kaula Lumpur, Malaysia World Cup India won the Gold beating Arch rivals Pakistan by 2-1.
The all important winning goal was scored by Ashok Kumar Dhyanchand who will be present on 6th December 2022 at Netaji Indoor stadium in Kolkata for the Trophy Tour.
The last world cup was held in 2018 was also held in Bhubaneswar where Belgium won the Trophy defeating Netherlands 3-2 in a Penalty Shoot-out (Tie Breaker).
The 2023 FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup is going to be held again in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela where 16 teams are participating.
Olympian Ashok Dhyanchand, Olympian Gurbux Singh, Aroop Biswas,Minister of Youth Services and Sports, Govt. of West Bengal, Eminent cricketer Manoj Tiwary, Minster of State, Department of Youth Services & Sports, Govt. of West Bengal and many Olympians and International Sports persons will be present for the unveiling ceremony in Netaji Indoor.
