On 15th December, 2022, acting on reliable information, troops of Border Out Post Mahakhola, 82 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier succeeded in seizing 20 lakh Bangladeshi currency from their area of responsibility. When the troops on duty got the news of the smugglers coming near the Border, they planned an ambush. At the same time, when the troops started advancing towards them, the smugglers took advantage of the thick bushes and fled towards Bangladesh. The jawans recovered a bag from the spot in which 20 lakh Bangladeshi currency was recovered.
The seized foreign currency was handed over to the Customs Department, Tehtta.
The Commanding Officer of 82 Battalion stated that the Border Security Force along the India-Bangladesh Border, while performing its duties with promptness, is continuously striving to prevent smuggling and is taking continuous action against those indulged in crimes like smuggling.
