BSF detained two passengers along with mobile phones, clothes and various types of cosmetics at ICP Petrapole located on the Indo-Bangladesh International Border. The total value of the seized items is approx Rs 3,54,003/-.
On 09 February 2023, BSF jawans of 145 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier, on the basis of reliable information, conducted a special search operation near the passenger gate at ICP Petrapole. At about 0940 hours, two suspected passengers going from India to Bangladesh were apprehended by BSF Jawans during the search and recovered Redmi mobile phone, watch, clothes, wig (fake hair) of worth Rs 3,54,003/-from their bags. Of the two apprehended passengers, one is an Indian national while other is a residents of Bangladesh.
During preliminary questioning, they revealed that they worked as a carrier and get Rs 1500 for this. They buy goods from the markets of India and smuggle them to the smugglers of Bangladesh.
Apprehended passengers along with seized items have been handed over to the Custom Office Petrapole.
In other incidents, BSF jawans of Border Outpost Bithari, 112 Battalion, foiled the plans of smugglers and seized 400 bottles of Phensedyl. Besides, jawans of BOP Hakimpur & BOP Mihir of 112 Battalion and BOP Nawada of 70 Battalion seized 118 bottles Phensedyl in total from their responsibility areas. The estimated value of seized 518 bottles of Phensedyl in Indian market is Rs. 1,06,351/-.
Seized Phensedyl has been handed over to respective Custom Office/ Police Station.
The Public Relations Officer of South Bengal Frontier said that BSF is taking strict steps to stop smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh border and no one will be spared if found involved in smuggling.
