On February 19, 2023, at around 7:50 pm, Border Security Force (BSF) troops of Border Outpost Nawada, 70 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier, seized 33 mobile phones worth Rs. 6,17,000/- while smugglers were attempting to smuggle them from India to Bangladesh.
Acting on an intelligence input, the troops noticed suspicious movement of some smugglers near the International Boundary. When challenged by BSF troops, the smugglers fled the spot, leaving behind some bags and taking advantage of the darkness and thick bushes. After a thorough search of the area, the troops recovered 33 mobile phones.
The seized mobile phones have been handed over to the Customs Office in Kaliachak for further legal action.
The Commanding Officer of 70 Battalion BSF stated that the force is taking strict measures to prevent smuggling along the India-Bangladesh border and our jawans are committed to stopping all kinds of trans-border crimes.”
