On February 25, 2023, jawans of Border Out Post Mahakhola, 82 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier, acted on concrete information and conducted a well-planned ambush in the area.
The jawans observed that a suspicious person was coming from the Border side. The jawans interrogated the man when he came near and after that, when he was searched, they seized six gold biscuits from his sandal. The troops immediately nabbed the smuggler. The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Ashadul Mandal (40), District Nadia.
During interrogation, the smuggler admitted that he has been indulged in cross-border smuggling for two years. He further revealed that today he had taken these sandals from Hiran Mandal, a resident of Qutubpur village of Bangladesh near Zero Line, in which six gold biscuits were hidden.
The weight of the seized gold biscuits is 699.69 gms with an estimated value of Rs 40,24,267/-.
The apprehended smuggler and the seized gold were handed over to the Customs Tehta for further legal action.
The commanding officer of the 82 Battalion stated that now a days smugglers try to smuggle in different ways. But due to the vigilance and understanding of the BSF jawans, smugglers are being caught continuously and their plans are constantly being foiled.
