On March 15, 2023 the Border Security Force (BSF) jawans from the 82 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier have successfully rescued two rare species of birds from smugglers. The jawans conducted a search operation in their area of responsibility based on reliable information and recovered two wooden boxes containing Dwarf Cassowary birds. The birds were handed over to the Forest Department in Krishnanagar for their safekeeping and care.

The jawans encountered smugglers attempting to cross the border from Bangladesh and immediately challenged them to stop. However, taking advantage of the darkness, the smugglers fled back. The prompt action and vigilance of the jawans led to the rescue of the two rare birds from the clutches of the smugglers.

The Commanding Officer of the 82 Battalion affirmed that the BSF is determined to put a stop to the smuggling of rare species of birds on the border. He emphasized that the BSF will not allow any kind of smuggling from their area under any circumstances. The BSF is committed to ensuring the protection and conservation of wildlife and their habitat in the region.
