Mizoram Health Minister Dr R. Lalthangliana attends National AYUSH Mission Conclave

Mizoram Health Minister Dr R. Lalthangliana delivered a speech at the National AYUSH Mission Conclave held at Vigyan Bhavan, in New Delhi, yesterday. The conclave, spanning two days and commencing on May 18, is scheduled to conclude on 19th May.

Addressing the gathering, Dr R. Lalthangliana highlighted that although medicinal plants were excluded from the National AYUSH Mission 2020-2021, the Mizoram State Medicinal Plant Board, operating under the National AYUSH Mission, currently has nine affiliated societies consisting of 270 families.

He appealed to the Central Government authorities to reintroduce medicinal plants as a subject. Additionally, he shared the state government’s vision of establishing a Herbal Garden at North Lungleng, where comprehensive studies on medicinal plants will be conducted.

The Minister appealed to the Central authorities to approve his proposal regarding creation of new posts to address the increasing demand of AYUSH doctors in Mizoram. He also recommended conducting awareness campaigns to educate the public about the benefits and uses of AYUSH medicine. He reminded the gathering that Union Minister for AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal had laid foundation stones for two AYUSH hospitals during his visit to Mizoram. In light of this, he urged the Union Government to expedite release of funds to commence construction of these hospitals.

Furthermore, Dr R.Lalthangliana emphasized that the Ministry of AYUSH had expressed its opinion on the feasibility of setting up AYUSH hospitals at various locations, including Khawhri leh Muallianpui (Hnahthial District), Zawlpui (Lunglei District), Silsuri (Mamit District), Sangau (Lawngtlai District), Lopu (Siaha Diatrict), Zokhawthar (Champhai District), Lungdai (Kolasib District). The state government has formulated plans to set up hospitals in these locations, he said.

The Minister was accompanied by Dr S Mara Thansiami, Deputy Director, Directorate of AYUSH and Dr Shirley Lalbiakzuali Chhangte, State Nodal Officer, AHWC.

The Minister also held a meeting with Secretary for Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) Pu BB Swain in his office chamber. In this meeting, the Minister put forward a proposal for the inclusion of bamboo under MSME scheme, along with discussions on other significant topics.

During his meeting with Manmohan Kaur, Adviser to the Ministry of Education, Dr. R. Thangliana urged the Ministry to promptly release the remaining funds that are yet to be disbursed from RUSA 2.0. He also emphasized the need for the Ministry to accelerate its efforts in formulating RUSA 3.0. Lalzarliana Hrahsel, Project Manager, Bamboo Development Agency accompanied the Minister on his visit to the Adviser.
