The tree plantation drive, also known as an afforestation initiative, is being carried out by the BSF with the main objective of increasing the number of forests in the border area. The drive aims to improve biodiversity, combat deforestation, and enhance air and water quality.
On 31st July 2023 at 1000 hrs, Shri Ayush Mani Tiwari, IPS, Inspector General, South Bengal Frontier, along with senior officers and jawans of the force, planted various species of fruitful and shady plants under the Plantation Drive-2023 in the premises of Frontier Headquarters South Bengal.
During the event, Shri Ayush Mani Tiwari, IPS, Inspector General, emphasized the vital role of tree plantation drives in positively impacting the environment and society. He explained that trees play a crucial role in enhancing biodiversity, mitigating climate change by sequestering carbon dioxide, improving air and water quality, and providing essential habitat for wildlife. Furthermore, he emphasized the numerous socio-economic benefits that arise from such initiatives, benefiting local communities in the region.
