BSF South Bengal Frontier Celebrates Grand Independence Day Celebrations at Frontier HQ, New Town, Kolkata & all Border Out Posts

On 15 August 2023, South Bengal Frontier of BSF celebrated Independence Day celebrations with great fanfare at Frontier HQ, New Town Kolkata along with its Sector HQrs, Battalion HQrs and Border Out Posts. On this grand occasion, Shri Ayush Mani Tiwari, IPS, IG, South Bengal Frontier, Border Security Force hoisted the flag at Frontier Headquarters Complex, New Town Kolkata, saluted the National Flag and all the personnel sang National Anthem. After this, he addressed the personnel present there about the history of the country’s independence and the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for this freedom. He told that the country has completed 76 years of independence and celebrating 77th Independence Day today. We should never forget the sacrifices of the freedom fighters in the freedom struggle. Further, he exhorted the present personnel to discharge their duties with honesty and full dedication.

The Inspector General congratulated 72 personnel of the South Bengal Frontier after the flag hoisting and presented them with medals for various services in the Border Security Force. Of these, 01 personnel have been awarded President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PMDS), 01 personnel have been awarded Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PMMS) and 70 personnel have been awarded IS Duty Medals.

Border people and school children participated enthusiastically in various programs organized by BSF on the occasion of Independence Day by reaching various border posts of Border Security Force deployed on Indo-Bangladesh International Border and hoisting tricolor at various places in the border areas. Rallies were taken out in the border area. The local people and jawans of the border areas wished each other on this auspicious occasion. The border people also took out Prabhat Pheri along with the jawans and hoisted the tricolor at their homes. Jawans distributed sweets to the border people and school children on the occasion. There was a lot of enthusiasm among the border people on the occasion of Independence Day and they also participated in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan’ being run in the border area along with the Jawans. BSF deployed in difficult terrains like Sundarbans and Char also celebrated Independence Day with full enthusiasm in floating BOPs and Boats. BSF is maintaining strict vigil on the Border in view of on going Independence Celebrations across the country.
