Four-day write shop themed ‘Regional Write shop on social Inclusion began at Dirang

A four-day write shop themed ‘Regional Write shop on social Inclusion under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY NRLM) for eight Northeastern states and Ladakh began at Dirang, West Kameng District organized by the Arunachal Rural Livelihood Mission (ArSRLM).

The writeshop aims to develop a national level strategy and protocols for social inclusion in the context of North eastern states and Ladakh.

Addressing the inaugural session, Additional District Commissioner Dirang, J.T Obi as chief guest welcomed the guests and insisted on the quality work with regards to women empowerment and Self-Help Group (SHG) in the region and across the country. He also emphasised on further inclusion of the vulnerable especially elderly and the PwDs within the ambit of the Self-help group. Dr. Mihir Sarkar, Director Indian council of centre- National Research centre (ICAR-NCR) as guest of honour stressed on the climate change adversities impacting marginal and vulnerable communities and requested for a joint convergence for all the multiple stakeholders in the state. Citing the example of the near future extinction of the Yak from major Himalayan belt of India including Arunachal Pradesh, Dr Sarkar emphasized that the need of the hour is to bring science and community together.

Further, Neelesh Singh National Mission Manager SISD (NRLM) gave an overview of the Social Inclusion and Social Development (SISD) thematic within DAY NRLM and Tuhina Gao Program Manager SISD, ArSRLM shared the overview of the SI perspective within Arunachal State Rural Livelihood Mission in Arunachal Pradesh.  Gao also informed at the session that a total of 173 Elderly Self Help Group (SHG) and 4 PwD SHGs have been formed under the ArSRLM. These SHGs will act a platform for the inclusion of the marginals, destitute and vulnerable in our society. To bring inclusion to the last mile vulnerable communities, ArSRLM is also working on a special project titled ‘Impacting Transitory life of the Brokpa Tribe in Arunachal through health and livelihood initiatives. Under the project led by Tuhina Gao, PM SISD, a total of 19 community target group and 9 SHGs have been formed are being hand holded by the Block Mission Management (BMM)unit of Dirang and District Mission Management unit, Bomdila (DMMU).
