At the beginning of the program at Bangladesh Gallery, a documentary film titled Genocide Day was screened. A minute’s silence was then observed. After that, under the leadership of the Deputy High Commissioner Andalib Ilyas, all the officials placed wreaths on the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Later, His Excellency the President and the Hon’ble Prime Minister read out the Prophet’s message by Councilor (Education and Sports) Riazul Islam and Councilor (Consular), ASM Almas Hossain. Minister (Political) and Head of the Embassy, ​​Sikdar Mohammad Ashrafur Rahman and First Secretary (Commercial), Md. Shamsul Arif discussed the Genocide Day in the event.
In his concluding remarks, Andalib Ilyas, Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Kolkata, paid tribute to the memory of all martyrs on the night of March 25, 1971 and the 9-month-long Great War of Liberation. He said that Bangladesh achieved independence by responding to the call of Bangabandhu with the utmost sacrifice. He highlighted the continuous efforts of the Bangladesh government to end the genocide and to achieve international recognition of the genocide in Bangladesh in 1971. At the same time, he called on everyone to fulfil Bangabandhu’s dream as also to fulfil the dream of the martyrs, to build a Golden Bengal.
