Now – a- days, the members of Shudra caste are established in higher post in government office and the Brahmins work as their subordinate. After Independence, Government of India has abolished the occupational restrictions through various laws and regulations. A person of any caste can occupy any capacity based on their merit.
Apart from the legal and Constitutional provisions social and economic changes have broken traditional caste hierarchy. Increased urbanisation, economic development, better education and job opportunities, occupational mobility has made people less conscious of their caste system.
Introduction of modern education, technology and social ideas has led to a decline in the influence of traditional caste norms.The spread of educational consciousness has provided opportunities for individuals from lower castes to improve their economic and social status.
Modernisation, Urbanisation and Globalisation have facilitated grater interaction among different caste groups leading to increased social integration.
Educated individuals have briged the caste divisions. Education has led to the rise of money modern thinkes and social reformers who questioned the foundation of caste division among other social evils. Post- independence, the govt ensured to include constitutional provisions that worked towards democratising the system.
Human Rights education will help get rid of caste prejudice. The social justice Ministry has recommended human rights education at various levels including Civil services other central services training institutions to get rid of caste based discrimination.
