BSF foils gold smuggling bid, Arrests Bangladeshi smuggler with gold worth Rs 38 lakh at ICP Petrapole

 Vigilant jawans of ICP Petrapole, 145 Battalion BSF under the South Bengal Frontier foiled a gold smuggling bid and apprehended a Bangladeshi smuggler with two cylindrical shaped gold paste weighing 525.680 grams while he was smuggling the seized gold paste from Bangladesh to India by concealing it in his body. The estimated value of the seized gold is Rs 38,11,180/-.

According to information received from BSF Officials,In the morning of 26 June , during routine frisking of a Bangladeshi passenger by vigilant BSF jawans, a metal detector indicated the presence of some metal in the lower part of the passenger’s body. Immediately, the jawans took the passenger to the toilet for a thorough frisking. Then two cylindrical pieces of gold in paste form were recovered from his possession which he had hidden in his rectum. The Jawans apprehended the passenger and seized both the cylindrical pieces of gold.

The apprehended passenger has been identified as Mohammad Masud Hussain resident of Gohar Kandi, Munshiganj, Bangladesh. During interrogation Mohammad Masud Hussain disclosed that some unknown person from Rampura, Dhaka offered him 02 lakh Bangladeshi Taka for carrying 02 pieces of gold in cylindrical shape to New Market, Kolkata (India). After hiding 02 pieces of gold in cylindrical shape in lower part of body, he reached the frisking point of BSF where BSF arrested him with gold pieces (in paste form) hidden in lower part of body cavity.

The apprehended Bangladeshi smuggler and the seized items have been handed over to Customs Department, Petrapole.

Public Relations Officer of BSF, South Bengal Frontier A.K. Arya, DIG expressed his satisfaction over the successful operation by BSF personnel. He emphasized BSF’s commitment to take strict action against smuggling activities. Suitably rewarded for concrete information, and the identity of the informant will be kept confidential
