India defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
Batting first, India posted 176/7 in their 20 overs. In reply, South Africa fell short at 169/8, handing India their second T20 World Cup title.
This was a closely contested final between the two unbeaten teams in the tournament.
India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. South Africa, led by Aiden Markram, was aiming for their first ICC title, while India last won the T20 World Cup in 2007.
In the semifinals, India had defeated defending champions England by 68 runs, while South Africa beat Afghanistan by 56 runs. The victory marks a significant achievement for India, who had not won a major trophy in over a decade.
