The vigilant jawans of BSF South Bengal Frontier have achieved great success in the Anti Drugs operations conducted on the India-Bangladesh border in Murshidabad district of West Bengal and seized a large consignment of 1527 Phensedyl. In a special operation conducted in the early morning of 18 August at the border outpost Meghna of the 146th Battalion under the Sector headquarters of BSF Berhampur, 5 Bangladeshi smugglers were arrested with a huge consignment of Phensedyl when these smugglers had illegally entered India to take the consignment of Phensedyl. The estimated value of the seized Phensedyl is Rs 3,13,768/-.
According to the information, during the second shift, the jawans of Border Outpost Meghna, 146th Battalion saw 6 to 7 smugglers from the Indian side and the approximately same number of smugglers from the Bangladesh side moving near the barbed wire fence. The jawan on duty immediately ran towards the smugglers and noticed 06-07 smugglers were throwing small sacks from the Indian side towards Bangladesh. The jawan immediately informed the other patrol team who were on duty ahead of the barbed wire fence and they immediately surrounded the area but in the meantime the smugglers fired 05 rounds from the Indian side. The patrol team retaliated and fired towards the smugglers due to which the smugglers on the Indian side ran back in fear and the patrol team ahead of the barbed wire surrounded all the Bangladeshi smugglers from all sides and succeeded in catching 05 Bangladeshi smugglers. After this, QRT also reached the spot, after which the surrounding areas were searched and 20 bags of phensedyl were recovered. All the smugglers caught and the seized phensedyl were brought to BOP Meghna for further action.
The arrested smugglers have been identified as Md. Rabbi (28), Rakibul Islam (35), Biplab Hussain (19), Zeru Maula (38) of Pakuria village of Daulatpur Upazila of Bangladesh and Ruhan Ali of Jamalpur village. During interrogation, the smugglers revealed that they had entered India illegally to get a consignment of Phensedyl and while they were getting the consignment of Phensedyl, the BSF caught them with Phensedyl. After this work was done, they would have got 800 Bangladeshi Taka each.
Apart from this, in other incidents on the same day, the jawans of Border Outpost Vijayamath of 86 Battalion and Border Outpost Kakmarichar, Bamanabad of 73rd Battalion and Border Outpost Angrail of 5th Battalion seized a total of 1043 bottles of Phensedyl.
The arrested smugglers and the seized goods have been handed over to the concerned police station for further action.
Public Relations Officer of South Bengal Frontier, A.K. Arya, DIG said that BSF is taking strict measures to stop smuggling on Indo-Bangladesh border. Due to this, people involved in such crimes have to face a lot of troubles. The officer further said that we will not allow smuggling from our area under any circumstances.
