The vigilant jawans of the Vijaypur Border Outpost, 32nd Battalion, under the BSF South Bengal Frontier, seized 22 gold biscuits, 8 gold bricks, and 1 small piece of gold in the Nadia district of West Bengal. The incident occurred on August 19 when a smuggler attempted to cross the border with the gold consignment and attacked a BSF jawan with a sharp weapon. The jawan retaliated in self-defense by firing a shot, prompting the smuggler to abandon the gold and flee. The total estimated value of the seized gold is Rs 4,31,63,400.

According to BSF South Bengal Frontier spokesperson  A.K. Arya, DIG, during the first shift on August 19 at the Vijaypur Border Outpost, 32nd Battalion, a jawan noticed a suspicious individual approaching on a bicycle through a bamboo grove near a banana plantation. When the jawan attempted to search the individual, the suspect became verbally abusive. The jawan managed to apprehend him, discovering something tightly wrapped around the suspect’s waist that contained hard and heavy items. During the search, the suspect suddenly attacked the jawan with a sharp weapon. The jawan narrowly avoided serious injury, though his shirt was cut near the left shoulder. In self-defense, the jawan fired a shot, which missed the suspect. Taking advantage of the dense bamboo thickets, the suspect managed to escape. Shortly after, other jawans arrived at the scene, and a search led to the recovery of 22 gold biscuits, 8 gold bricks, and 1 small piece of gold from the suspect’s cloth belt.

The seized gold biscuits and bricks have been handed over to the DRI Kolkata for further action.

A.K. Arya, DIG, Public Relations Officer of the BSF South Bengal Frontier, expressed satisfaction with the successful operation by BSF personnel. He emphasized the BSF’s commitment to taking strict action against smuggling activities and urged border residents to report any information related to gold smuggling via the BSF Seema Sathi Helpline No. 14419 or WhatsApp message or voice message at 9903472227.
