Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced his resignation from the top post on Sunday, saying he will step down in the next two days. Kejriwal stated that a new chief minister from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will be selected in the next 2-3 days.
The AAP leader said he will not sit on the CM’s chair until the people of Delhi give him a “certificate of honesty” through their votes. Kejriwal demanded that the Delhi Assembly elections, scheduled for February 2025, be held in November along with the Maharashtra polls.
“I am going to resign from the CM position after two days. I will not sit on the CM chair until the people give their verdict… I will go to every house and street and not sit on the CM chair till I get a verdict from the people,” Kejriwal said in his address to AAP workers.
The BJP termed Kejriwal’s announcement a “PR stunt”, claiming that he has understood his image among Delhiites is not of an honest leader.
Kejriwal was recently released on bail after spending nearly six months in jail in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. The Supreme Court granted him bail with certain conditions, including barring him from entering the CM office and signing files.
