The Department of Trade and Commerce, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh in association with the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Kolkata and Indian Institute of Packaging, Kolkata is conducting an Awareness-cum-Training Workshop on Export Procedures & Documentation and Packaging of Agri-Horti Products at Dirang, West Kameng District from March 4-6, 2025.
The inaugural session of the Awareness Training was attended by Akriti Sagar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner as the Chief Guest, Circle Officer, Themang, Moyir Kato, Officers from the Department of Trade and Commerce-Mekory Dodum, Trade Development Officer, Bomdila and Joshlin Tayeng, Trade Development Officer, Directorate office-Itanagar, Officers from various stakeholder departments of Dirang administration and participants comprising of farmers, members of Self-Help Groups & Farmers Producers Company, Prospective Exporters, from the district.
The event was organized in line to launching of export promotion drive initiated by the Govt. of India with focus on reducing imports, increasing exports and identifying opportunities and products for aggressive marketing of the region’s business potential and strategic collaboration between different levels of government and the private sector to facilitate exports.
As the State Govt strive to promote the growth of agriculture and horticulture in Arunachal Pradesh, it is essential to equip farmers, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders with the knowledge and skills necessary to tap into the global market. This workshop aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the export procedures, documentation requirements, and packaging best practices for agri-horti products.
In her address, Akriti Sagar Deputy Commissioner extended her gratitude to the Department of Trade and Commerce headed by Saugat Biswas, Commissioner, Trade & Commerce, for organizing the workshop and expressed her enthusiasm for such an overwhelming response from all quarters for their participation. Extending her gratitude to the Professor from Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Dr. Gautam Dutta, she urged the participants to interact with the Resource Persons from the Indian Institute of Packaging and the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade with their problems and not be apprehensive to put forward their queries.
Dr. Gautam Dutta, informed the audience that the state possesses rich agricultural and horticultural produce, mineral resources, handicrafts, and processed food products, all of which have immense export potential. He highlighted that lack of awareness among small-scale entrepreneurs regarding export procedures, documentation, and market linkages is a common hindrance and therefore, this workshop is designed to create awareness regarding the regulations and compliance including the importance of packaging, and also promote the export market with the use of innovative packaging design & development, standardization.
The technical session of the awareness workshop includes topic on Export Scenario from respective districts based on Products & Prospects, Export Procedure & Documentation: a Step by Step Guide, Identifying Products and Foreign Markets for Exports by Indian Institute of Foreign Trade and dissemination of information about the trends and technology in packaging with Introduction to Packaging including Symbols, Registration, Consumer Packaging, Tariff and Non-Tariff Barriers for Agri-Horti Products, to be imparted by the professionals of Indian Institute of Packaging.
