DIRECTOR GENERAL NCC, LIEUTENANT GENERAL GURBIRPAL SINGH VISITED KOLKATA TODAY

 

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is a premier youth organization fostering discipline, patriotism, and leadership among Indian students. Origin of NCC can be traced back to the initial University Cadet Corps raised in Kolkata and today the West Bengal & Sikkim NCC Directorate has more than One Lakh cadets while further expansion is under way.

In backdrop of the ongoing efforts to expand the reach of the National Cadet Corps, committed to youth empowerment, Lieutenant General Gurbirpal Singh, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, Director General of NCC, visited West Bengal & Sikkim Directorate at Kolkata. During his visit, the General officer was briefed on the various activities being conducted by the six Groups & 54 NCC Units of the Directorate. He also took the opportunity to interact with cadets from various units of the Directorate, offering guidance and encouragement to the future leaders of the nation.

Accompanied by Major General Vivek Tyagi, Additional Director General of the West Bengal and Sikkim Directorate, the DG NCC witnessed an immersive cultural programme presented by the cadets at the recently upgraded NCC Training Institute. The event showcased a variety of performances, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the two states and talents, skills of the motivated NCC cadets.

As part of the proceedings, Lt General Gurbirpal Singh, awarded the DG NCC Banner to the Darjeeling Group and presented the Best Unit award to 10 Bengal Bn NCC of the Burdwan Group, 2 Naval Unit NCC of Kol ‘C’ Group for their exemplary performance across multiple training and administrative parameters. The General also recognized the exceptional efforts of selected Associate NCC Officers (ANOs), Girl Cadet Instructors (GCI), and cadets by awarding them medallions for their dedication and outstanding contributions.

In his address to the gathering, the DG NCC praised the concerted efforts of the NCC Directorate in shaping our future leaders and empowering them. He appreciated the cadets for their passion and hard work, reflecting in their camps, adventure activities and various community programs. He exhorted them to stay committed in always placing the ‘Nation First’. The DG NCC emphasised the stellar role NCC alumni were playing in Nation Building and that NCC opened great opportunities for Youth. The DG NCC also held informal interaction with the NCC staff, cadets and NCC officers at the NCC Institute, providing them with the opportunity to share their experiences and aspirations. His words of encouragement resonated with the cadets as he urged them to continue striving for excellence and imbibe an ethos of selfless disciplined life.

Role of NCC Kolkata in NationBuilding:

The NCC Directorate at Kolkata plays a crucial role in nurturing and guiding the youth of West Bengal and Sikkim, instilling in them a sense of discipline, patriotism, and social responsibility.

Under the leadership of Major General Vivek Tyagi, the NCC endeavors to further enhance its efforts in nurturing future leaders, fostering character development, and promoting a spirit of national service among cadets.
Major General Vivek Tyagi’s assumption of the position of Additional Director General marks a significant milestone in the NCC’s ongoing commitment to empowering young individuals and cultivating their potential to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.
