SEALDAH DIVISION CONDUCTS AWARENESS CAMPAIGN TO CURB PLASTIC USE AND PROMOTE ECO-FRIENDLY PRACTICES

In alignment with the global theme End Plastic Pollution, Eastern Railway’s Sealdah Division has undertaken a major initiative to promote eco-friendly alternatives and reduce the use of single-use plastic at railway premises recently. The Environment and Housekeeping Management (EnHM) Department conducted a large-scale awareness and cleanliness campaign across various stations of the division. The campaign encouraged passengers and vendors to adopt sustainable practices, including the use of personal water bottles in place of disposable plastic ones. Public Address (PA) systems are being actively used to inform passengers about the harmful effects of single-use plastic and to seek their cooperation in limiting its use. Additionally, train service providers and onboard vendors have been encouraged to replace plastic products with recycled and eco-friendly alternatives in catering and related services.

This initiative marks a significant step towards creating a cleaner and greener railway environment, reaffirming Eastern Railway’s strong commitment to environmental sustainability.
