The vigilant jawans of BSF South Bengal Frontier successfully foiled a major smuggling attempt along the India-Bangladesh International Border in West Bengal’s Malda district, recovering fake Indian currency worth ₹5 lakh. This achievement is a testament to the alertness and swift action of the border troops, who promptly responded to suspicious activity and thwarted the smugglers’ plan.
On 12 June 2025, at around 10:20 am, jawans of Border Outpost Sovapur, under the 71 Battalion of the BSF, deployed along the India-Bangladesh International Border in Malda district of West Bengal, noticed suspicious movement by three smugglers on the Bangladesh side while maintaining heightened vigilance based on prior intelligence. The smugglers approached the fence, threw a packet across into Indian territory, and quickly retreated. The alert jawan on duty immediately took action, rushed to the location and informed nearby jawans and senior officers. Their swift response prevented any attempt by accomplices on the Indian side to retrieve the packet. As soon as the information was received, BSF team immediately reached the spot and cordoned off the area and conducted an intensive search operation. During the search, the packet was recovered and upon opening, was found to contain 1,000 counterfeit ₹500 notes, amounting to a total face value of ₹5,00,000.
Action is being taken to hand over the seized fake Indian currency to the concerned department for further necessary legal action.
The Public Relations Officer of the South Bengal Frontier, while sharing details of the incident, stated that the ongoing campaign by the Border Security Force (BSF) to curb smuggling and drug trafficking along the Indo-Bangladesh border is consistently achieving remarkable success. He emphasized that repeated smuggling attempts are being effectively thwarted due to the vigilance, promptness, and swift action of BSF jawans.
