World Theatre Day at Assam Down Town University

There is no doubt that the education system produces fruitful results if cultural activities are combined with it.’ Assam down town University has organized a lecture event to celebrate World Theatre Day and veteran actor Pranjal Saikia has stated as quoted above.

Pranjal Saikia also stated that theatre helps students grow mentally. The topic of his lecture was ‘Method acting’. The other two speakers were Gunakar Dev Goswami and Pranami Bora. In their talks, they discussed ‘the application of folk art to modern drama’ as well as the ‘preparation of an actor’ in modern drama. The students took part in an interactive session during which they made the topic more lively and interesting from an academic standpoint, thanks to an interactive session.

Dr. Narayan Chandra Talukdar, Vice-Chancellor of the University, inaugurated the event on behalf of the University. Along with the Vice Chancellor, the Pro VC of the University Dr Pranaveer Singh, Dean of Performing Arts Utpal Datta welcomed the guests.

The prizes of the solo acting competition organized by the Drishya Drama Club were also distributed by Pranjal Shaikia and Gunakar Dev Goswami.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Assistant Professor Pankhi Kashyap. The other dignitaries present in the event were Dr Sagarika Mahanta Das, Dr Daisy Barman, Nibedita Baishya etc.
