BSF troops operating in their area of responsibility along the Indo-Bangladesh International Border apprehended a smuggler attempting to cross over to Bangladesh with painkillers (Tapentadol medicine) tablets.

The incident took place on April 29, 2023, in the Kaharpara Border Outpost area under the 117 Battalion. The BSF intelligence department had tipped off the troops on duty about a potential smuggling attempt. When the vigilant jawans were searching farmers at the gate, a suspicious individual disguised as a farmer with a water pipe drew their attention. Upon searching the pipe, the jawans discovered a large consignment of 1220 strip tablets of Tapentadol medicine, valued at approximately Rs. 4,63,600/- in the Indian market. The smuggler, identified as Bikram Das (40) from Murshidabad district, was apprehended on the spot. During questioning, Das revealed that Rustum Sheikh (also from Murshidabad district) had given him the medicine and tasked him with delivering it to an unknown recipient across the border.

The apprehended smuggler and seized material were handed over to the Ranitala police station for further legal action.

The Commanding Officer of the 117 Battalion expressed satisfaction with the success of the jawans and commended their vigilance. He urged people not to engage in smuggling and warned that the BSF would not tolerate any illegal activities on the border, promising to take strict action against those involved.
