In a significant step toward enhancing border security and cooperation, the Border Security Force (BSF) of India and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) held a Nodal Officer-level coordination meeting at ICP Petrapole on October 8. This meeting is crucial for strengthening India-Bangladesh relations, especially given the current situation in Bangladesh.

The BGB delegation, led by Lt. Col. Md Anwarul Mazhar, Operations Director and Nodal Officer for the BGB South-West Region, was warmly welcomed by the BSF, represented by Shri Niloptal Kumar Pandey, DIG (G), Frontier Headquarters BSF South Bengal. Senior officers from both sides attended the bilateral meeting, which focused on ensuring peace and stability along the 4,096-kilometer India-Bangladesh border.

Key topics discussed at the conference included addressing border security challenges, particularly the prevention of illegal infiltration, smuggling, and human trafficking, which have risen against the backdrop of political and social unrest in Bangladesh. The Indian side expressed deep concern over the recent increase in illegal infiltration attempts, urging Bangladesh to strengthen its security mechanisms. Bangladesh assured that necessary actions would be taken to curb these activities.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a peaceful border environment, emphasizing the importance of regular dialogue and coordination to swiftly resolve any emerging issues. The meeting concluded in a cordial atmosphere, with both delegations pledging continued cooperation.
