On December 23, 2024, a bright and sunny morning, participantGeneral Vivek Tyagi, Additional Director General, West Bengal & Sikkims, parents and guests gathered at the Gitanjali Stadium for the Biennial Sports of South Point High School.
The school was honoured to have Major General Vivek Tyagi, Additional Director General, West Bengal & Sikkim Directorate NCC as the Chief Guest. He hoisted the School flag and lit the ceremonial torch and handed it over to the Head Boy of the school.
In his address to the gathering Major General Vivek Tyagi stressed upon the importance of sports and sportsmanship. A greater co-operation between NCC and South Point in days to come was a moot point of his address.
As always the March past by National Cadet Corps from SPHS and representatives of all the houses was watched with keen interest and assessed by visiting dignitaries and members of the Senior management. The audience cheered as the students marched onwards with their head held high in tandem with the synchronized drum beats of the Police Band.
This was followed by an efficient yoga and drill display by pupils of the middle school. The impressive yoga formations and the scintillating moves of those performing the drill were heartily applauded. Senior school girls in red and black presented a Yoga dance set to indian instrumental music. The graceful and mesmeric movements and statuesque poses were a treat to watch.
35 track events including those for ex-students set the track on fire. Of course there were winners but where SPHS is concerned all participants upholding the true spirit of sportsmanship are winners.
The NCC Directorate at Kolkata plays a crucial role in nurturing and guiding the youth of West Bengal and Sikkim, instilling in them a sense of discipline, patriotism, and social responsibility.
Under the leadership of Major General Vivek Tyagi, the NCC endeavors to further enhance its efforts in nurturing future leaders, fostering character development, and promoting a spirit of national service among cadets.
