On February 16, 2022, at ICP Petrapole at around 2230 hrs, the troops of 179 Battalion have recovered large quantity of medicines from two Indian trucks, who were returning to India after export of goods in Bangladesh (Benapole).
Two trucks were intercepted by BSF at Petrapole ICP on the night intervening 16-17 Feb and high value medicines being which were being brought illegally into India from Bangladesh were seized from these trucks which were returning after unloading their cargo at Benapole ICP.
Driver of one truck did not have valid driving license while the other presented a fake driving license and on questioning by BSF also revealed how he obtained the same. Both the trucks did not have valid registration papers also. In fact three different number plates were also seized from one of the trucks.
It is learnt that some of seized medicines have not been approved for use in India. Complaint had been lodged at Police Station to register FIR and investigate the matter.
Both the apprehended truck drivers, helper along with the seized material have been handed over to the Police Station- Petrapole for further legal proceedings.
The Public Relations Officer of South Bengal Frontier stated that the customs officials have been informed in detail about the incident. The Border Security Force and other stakeholder agencies are fully committed to preventing smuggling in Petrapole under the guise of import and export vehicles and personal belongings of passengers. The BSF troops are constantly keeping a watch on the miscreants having malafide intentions to carry out cross-border crime through ICP Petrapole, the official said. He further added that we will continue to foil every attempt of the smugglers.
