ECI reduces Assam Minister campaign ban from 48 to 24 hours

The Election Commission of India reduced Assam Minister Dr Himanrta Biswa Sarma 48 to 24 hours. The commission, having considered his unconditional apology and assurance.

After the EC order, Dr Sarma tweeted that he will be holding a roadshow this evening. “Join us in our Road Show today evening from Sonaram field to Lal Ganesh which will cover 6 km distance in support of AGP candidate of West Guwahati Sri Ramendra Narayan Kalita.

 Mr Sarma will now be able to campaign tomorrow – the final day before the third and final phase of Assembly elections take place on Tuesday.

On April 2, In its official notification, the ECI said that Sarma’s reply to the show-cause notice, which was issued earlier, was “not found to be satisfactory”.

The third and final phase will be held April 6, with votes to be counted May 2.
