Writer and retired IPS officer Hiranya Kumar Bhattacharyya passed away at the age of 89 at Nemcare Hospital this morning.
Hiranya Kumar Bhattacharyya was an IPS officer of the 1958 batch, he served as the DIG of the Border Wing of Assam Police.
Bhattacharya is credited with his active role in the liberation of Bangladesh During the Bangladesh War of Liberation (1971).
In 2013, Bangladesh Government honoured him the prestigious Friends of Liberation War.
