In Assam, the All India United Democratic Front is going to suffer a big setback.
According to a report from TOI on 27th August AIUDF MLA Phani Talukdar is likely to join BJP.
Talukdar was elected from the Bhabanipur Constituency of Assam as an AIUDF candidate.
Earlier Mariani constituency Rupjyoti Kurmi, and Thowra MLA Sushant Borgohain left Congress and joined BJP.
If Talukdar quits AIUDF and resigns from the MLA post to join the BJP then he will be the third opposition MLA of Assam who will join the ruling party BJP.
Now total of five Assembly Seats is vacant in Assam. These seats are Mariani, Thowra, Majuli, Gossaigaon and Tamulpur. Gossaigaon and Tamulpur seats are currently vacant after both the MLAs lost their lives to the Covid-19.
