IMCT visits Assam to assess the Flood/Landslide damages of the State in 2021

A high level Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) comprised of seven (7) nos. of members from different Ministries of Govt. of India visited various districts of Assam for on-spot assessment of the flood/landslide damages during the current year w.e.f. October 19 to 20, 2021. Further, the Team wrapped up the details with the senior officials of Govt. of Assam today at ASDMA Conference Hall, Janata Bhawan, Dispur. The Team was headed by Shri Manish Tiwari, IAS, Joint Secretary (JKL), MHA, New Delhi.

            The Central Team discussed about the damages and loss of the livelihood and properties of the visiting districts of Assam viz. Bongaigaon, Chirang and Lakhimpur with Govt. of Assam in the meeting. Govt. of Assam urged the Central Team to consider releasing of the fund under National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for repair and restoration works against the damages during current year flood. Further, the Team was also urged to consider Erosion as an item admissible under SDRF/NDRF in their report to the Govt. of India (GoI), as the State suffers heavily due to river erosion every year. Shri Tiwari in this regard, assured the Govt. of Assam and said that they will submit the report with recommendations very soon to the GoI. It may be mentioned that, this year Govt of Assam has requested for release of Rs. 1088.19 Crores from SDRF/NDRF for repair and restoration works. 

The other six (6) nos. of members of the Team were Shri Rupak Das Talukdar, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Finance Department of Expenditure (FCD), GoI, Shri Narendra Kumar, Director, Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare, DJD, Kolkata, GoI, Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, Superintending Engineer, Ministry of Jal Shakti, CWC Complex, Guwahati,  Shri Pawan Kumar Gupta, Deputy Director, Ministry of Power, CEA, Sewa Bhawan, New Delhi, Adelbert Susngi, RO, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Guwahati, and Shri Deep Shekher Singhal, US(RE-VII), Ministry of Rural Development.     

The meeting was also attended by Shri Avinash Joshi, Principal Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, Environment & Forest Dept. and Revenue & DM Dept., Shri Gyanendra Tripathi. Chief Executive Officer, ASDMA, Shri Chinmoy Nath, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, ASDMA, Shri Dhiraj Saud, State Project Coordinator, ASDMA and other senior officials of ASDMA.
