Border Security Force (BSF) troops under South Bengal Frontier thwarted the attempts of smugglers and seized 1840 bottles of banned cough syrup Phensedyl in separate incidents from the area of their responsibility in the Indo-Bangladesh Border area in Bengal. Along with this, 01 smuggler has also been apprehended. A statement from the BSF stated that the estimated value of the seized Phensedyl is Rs 3,43,435. Smugglers were trying to smuggle all these Phensedyl bottles from India to Bangladesh.
On February 27, 2022, troops of Border Out Post, Uttarpaara, 107 battalion, acting on the basis of specific input apprehended a person and seized 200 bottles of Phensedyl. The apprehended person is a resident of Uttarboyra, a bordering village in North 24 Parganas district, whose name is Subhas Mondal, father’s name is Nirapad Mondal.
During interrogation, Subhash Mandal revealed that he was involved in cross-border smuggling for the last two years. He further revealed that he had taken 200 bottles of Phensedyl from Bhede Das, a resident of Das Pada of Boyra village and got Rs 4000 to take them to the International Boundary.
In another incident, on February 27, 2022, Border Out Post Baliashisha, 86 Battalion under Sector Behrampur troops foiled the nefarious intentions of smugglers by putting ambush in their area. However, the smugglers managed to escape by taking advantage of the darkness. On searching the area 660 bottles of Phensedyl were recovered. The South Bengal Frontier has managed to seize 1840 Phensedyl from its area of responsibility in the last 24 hours.
Here, the apprehended smugglers and the seized Phensedyl bottles have been handed over to the concerned Custom Office/Police Station for further legal action.
At the same time, the South Bengal Frontier Public Relations Officer, expressing happiness over this success, patted his troops on the back. He stated that this has been possible only because of the alertness displayed by his troops on duty. The officer clearly stated that nothing can hide from the eyes of his troops.
