On 10 March, 2022, acting on specific information, the troops of Border Out Post Dobarpara, 158 Battalion laid a special Ambush near Bornberia village, located near the Ichhamati river (International Boundary). At around 0510 hrs in the morning, the Ambush Party apprehended the smuggler with two Nylon bags . When the apprehended smuggler was searched by BSF troops, 75 bottles of Phensedyl and some homeopathic medicines were recovered from inside two bags.
The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Akhtar Islam, age 24, Village – Lavatara, Post Office – Rampur, Police Station – Sarsa, District – Jessore (Bangladesh).
During the initial interrogation, the Bangladeshi smuggler Akhtar Islam revealed that he had come to India illegally across the International Boundary a year ago and used to work as a laborer in Bangalore. He was trying to go back to Bangladesh to meet his family. In the meantime, he had a phone conversation with a Bangladeshi broker named Suman who planned for crossing the International Boundary for Akhtar Islam by paying him Rs 10,000/-. Suman provided him the phone number of a Bangladeshi smuggler named Zaidul. Zaidul works as a carrier in Phensedyl smuggling. Zaidul told him to come to Bornberia and from Bornberia when both of them were on their way towards Ichmati river (International Boundary) to go to Bangladesh. At the same time, Zaidul had Phensedyl and some medicines in two nylon bags which he was taking to Bangladesh by crossing the BSF duty line, but when he was challenged by the BSF as soon as he reached the BSF duty line, Zaidul ran away leaving Phensedyl while the BSF apprehended him with both the bags.
Apprehended Bangladeshi smuggler and seized Phensedyl and drugs have been handed over to Gaighata Police Station for further legal action.
The Public Relations Officer, South Bengal Frontier has expressed happiness over the achievements of the troops of 158 Battalion, in which the jawans apprehended 01 Bangladeshi smuggler with 75 bottles of Phensedyl and some homeopathic medicines. He added that this has been possible only due to the increased vigilance by troops on Border. The officer also stated that they will not allow any kind of smuggling in their area.
