In a statement issued by the Border Security Force, it was told that on March 22, 2022, while taking action against smuggling in the bordering area of Nadia district, on the basis of specific input, the troops of Border Out Post Vijaypur, 54 Battalion launched a special operation . During this BSF troops apprehended 01 smuggler with 22.626 kg of silver ornaments. The value of the seized silver ornaments is Rs 15.34 lakh.
The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Arijit Haldar, age 24 years, S/o Amal Haldar, a resident of bordering village- Haldarpada, District- Nadia, West Bengal. During interrogation, Arijit Haldar revealed that both he and his fellow Sadan Haldar took these items from Srikanto Pal and Jaydeb Pal residence of village Adityapur and were going to hand over Dipankar Biswas to village Chandpur. For this work he was to get Rs.300/- per person. Further he revealed that they were doing this type of work since last 1 year.
The apprehended smuggler along with the seized silver ornaments were handed over to Customs Department, Banpur for further action.
Sh. J R Kujur, Commanding Officer, 54 Battalion stated that the Border Security Force is taking stringent steps to check smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Consequently, the people involved in such crimes are facing a lot of difficulties. Few are being caught and they are being punished according to the law. The officer further added that any smuggler with wrong intentions will not be spared.
