BSF seized smuggled items worth Rs 13.21 lakh on Indo-Bangladesh border during 24 hours by campaign, one smuggler also apprehended

On May 28, 2022, South Bengal Frontier BSF jawans have succeeded in seizing 12.75 kg of silver, 2604 Phensedyl bottles and 11.9 kg of Ganja in different incidents from their area of ​​responsibility during the last 24 hours. The troops also apprehended 01 smuggler. The total value of the seized goods is Rs 13,21,645.

In the first incident, 70 Bn BSF troops in the responsibility area of ​​the Border Out Post Gopalnagar spotted some suspected smugglers with bundles in their hands, who were trying to move towards the Border (Fence). The troops challenged the smugglers to stop. Hearing the voice of the jawans, the smugglers tried to run towards the Indian village but the jawans chased and apprehended one smuggler with 197 bottles. While the rest of the smugglers managed to escape by taking advantage of the high growth of jute. The smuggler has been identified as Russell Miyav (Age 19 Years), Son- Jafar Ali, Village- Gopalnagar Post – Sasani, Police Station – Kaliachak, District Malda (West Bengal). Smuggler told during interrogation that he had taken these Phensedyl bottles from the smuggler of Gopalnagar village and they were to be handed over to the Bangladeshi smuggler after crossing the Border Fence.

In the second incident, on May 28, 2022 at 1210 hrs, the troops of 54 Battalion Border Out Post Vijaypur noticed a smuggler who took 12.7 kg of silver, 720 bottles of Phensedyl, 3.9 kg of ganja on the border with a scooty at night. As soon as the troops tried to apprehended him, seeing the BSF jawans coming towards them, leaving the scooty, fled from there taking advantage of the darkness and plantation.

In another incident, troops of the South Bengal Frontier have succeeded in thwarting the attempts of smugglers to seize 1707 Phensedyl bottles and 8 kg of ganja from the area of ​​their responsibility.

The seized items have been handed over to the concerned Customs Office/Police Station for further legal proceeding.

The South Bengal Frontier issued a statement stating that the Border Security Force is taking strict measures to prevent all kinds of smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh border, due to which some people are being apprehended. Considering the seriousness of the crime of those smugglers, they are also being punished.
