BSF apprehended an Indian smuggler red handed with Silver jewelery on Border

Border Security Force troops under the South Bengal Frontier apprehended an Indian smuggler with 6.1 kg of silver jewelery from their border area. The total value of the seized jewelery is estimated at Rs 3,38,733/-. The smugglers were trying to take these jewelery from India to Bangladesh.

On 14 June, 2022 at around 1920 hrs, on the basis of specific information, the jawans of Border Out Post Hakimpur, 112 Battalion, Sector Kolkata stopped a motorcycle which was going from Hakimpur Bazar towards the Hakimpur village. As soon as the motorcycle was searched, 16 packets wrapped with brown tape were recovered from under the seat, out of which 6.1 kg of silver jewelery was recovered. The bike rider was apprehended by the Border Security Force. The apprehended person has been identified as 1) Mozaffar Dafadar, 34 years, father–Shavkat Dafadar, village Dharkanda, Thana Swaroopnagar, District-North 24 Parganas.

During preliminary interrogation, the bike rider revealed that he is an Indian citizen and does petty smuggling work for his survival. He further revealed that on June 14, 2022, all these packets were given to him by the smuggler of Tarali village. After crossing the BSF duty line, it was to be handed over to the smuggler of Hakimpur village for which he was to get ₹ 400. But as he was crossing the duty point of the Border Security Force, the Border Security Force troops apprehended him.

The apprehended person has been handed over to Customs Office Tentulia along with the seized silver jewellery.

Narayan Chand, Commanding Officer, 112 Battalion expressed happiness over the achievement of the jawans in thwarting smuggling attempts. He stated that this has been possible only because of the alertness displayed by his jawans on duty. The officer clearly stated that they also have an excellent team to provide accurate information related to smuggling, which keeps a close watch on the criminal activities taking place in the border area.
