BSF FREES RARE SPECIES OF BIRDS FROM THE CLUTCHES OF SMUGGLERS

On 26th August, 2022 at 1530 hrs, under South Bengal Frontier, troops of Border Out Post Banpur, 54 Battalion rescued 11 birds (Pigeons) from the clutches of smugglers on the basis of reliable information. When the jawans noticed a suspicious person coming towards fencing from Bangladesh side, the jawans on duty challenged him. Seeing the troops coming towards him, the smuggler ran away by throwing 3 plastic bags over the fencing. When the jawans opened the plastic bags, 11 pigeon birds were recovered from them. The smuggler was bringing these exotic species of pigeons to India for smuggling from Bangladesh.

The birds rescued from the clutches of smugglers have been handed over to the Forest Department, Ranaghat.

Shri Desh Raj Singh, Commanding Officer 54 Battalion stated that the Border Security Force is taking stringent action to stop the smuggling of rare species of birds along the Border. He further stated in clear words that we will not allow smuggling from our area under any circumstances.
