BSF SEIZES BANGLADESHI CURRENCY FROM PASSENGER BUS AT ICP PETRAPOLE

The incident took place on 5th October’ 2022 at 1000 hrs, at ICP Petrapole, 179 Battalion, Sector Kolkata under South Bengal Frontier. On the basis of reliable information, when the troops on duty searched the passenger bus which was going from Kolkata to Dhaka as usual, 7 lakh Bangladeshi Taka was recovered from 3 people. The apprehended smugglers were identified as Tapan Das (Driver), Prasanta Dutta (Operator) and Susanta Das (Helper), North 24 Parganas. Smugglers were taking this currency from India to Bangladesh illegally.

During interrogation, they revealed that they all had received this cash from Liton Ghosh resident of Dunlop, Kolkata and was to be handed over further to Shyamoli Transport’s office in Dhaka, Bangladesh. But the BSF seized this cash from them during the search of the bus.

The apprehended smugglers and the confiscated Bangladeshi Taka were handed over to Custom Office Petrapole for further legal action.

The Commanding Officer of the 179 Battalion stated that the Border Security Force is taking strict measures to prevent smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh Border. He further stated that more people are expected to be indulged in such smuggling, for this our intelligence department is continuously investigating.
