Awareness campaign against Child Labour ends in Dibrugarh University

Vikiran” a community based organisation led by 3rd semester PR students of the Centre for Studies in Journalism and Mass Communication, Dibrugarh University has been organising an awareness campaign against child labour in separate locations of the city which concluded today, to create awareness and understanding amongst the public about the evils of child labour and to encourage people to take positive action against it.

The twelve-day-long campaign which got off on November 19, involved wall painting session, poster making competition, series of audience participatory act, a talk with Gyanmalinee Radio Station Dibrugarh and social media campaign. The purpose of the campaign was to help people understand the evil impacts of child labour on their mental and physical health and how individual action can lessen the problem.

The 3rd semester students having Public Relation as their specialisation in CSJMC, DU here particularly took part in the 12-day rigorous campaign , where Azmee Nasreen Rahman, Nituma Sharma, Sandipta Mazumder, Karabi Gogoi, Kaustav Kashyap, Munni Kumari Gupta, Aditya Mishra took the leadership to carry forward the campaign along with many students of Dibrugarh University. All total 30 students took part in different activities of the campaign. The campaign started with one on-ground activity on 19th November which was a wall painting session that was done at Thana Chariali and Khaliamari, Dibrugarh. Another on-ground activity was a two-day series of audience participatory act, where audience participation and response was really staggering that ended well on 27th November.

The result of poster making competition was announced on 29th November. Different social media campaigning was going on where some online survey and offline questionnaire session cropped up. Finally on 30th November the team “Vikiran” hold forth with Gyanmalinee Radio Station Dibrugarh to talk about the topic and endeavored to spread concluding words against child labour.

Chief Guest Aditya Kumar Chatterjee in his remarks said, “Child labour is a black stain of a society. We call everyone irrespective of caste, religion and language to come together to abolish child labour and build a protected amd better civilized society for our future generation.” In collaboration with VINTAGE STREET CAFÉ and DU ADDA restaurant the initiative concluded successfully.

Child labour is a rising crime which forces small children to loss their childhood, stoping them to earn knowledge and their growth in every aspect i.e physically, socially and mentally. So steps like CSJMC has taken are utmost necessary. With this kind of campaign, public will be awakened about the salient role that they need to engage in, to safeguard the future of the child labours.
