Border Security Force, First Line of Defence of India, is the largest Border Guarding Force in the world with 193 Battalions including 04 NDRF Battalions and is guarding International border along with Pakistan Border in Western Theatre and Bangladesh in the Eastern Theatre. The BSF was raised on 1st December 1965, just after Indo-Pak War when a need was felt that there should be a specialized and specific Force to guard the Indian Borders and was initially raised with 25 Battalions under the able leadership and guidance of Padma Vibhushan Shri K F Rustamji, IP, consisting of mainly of Armed Police Personnel of Bordering States. The BSF stands rock solid on the Western Border where interference, firing, bombardment, Infiltration by Pakistan has become the order of the day. The Force has not only grown in volumes but has also become a unique Force having its own Artillery, Air, Water and Animal Wings. BSF in addition to its prime task of Border Guarding also deployed for Internal Security duties, Counter-Insurgency and Anti-Naxal Operations, deployment during Election duties and extending helping hands during natural calamities.
Mizoram & Cachar Frontier with its HQs at Masimpur, Silchar is a unique Frontier of the BSF as it guards Borders of South Assam in Barak Valley and whole of Mizoram with Bangladesh covering 475 Kms border. Apart from this, BSF Battalions are also deployed in Manipur and Nagaland in Counter-Insurgency Role and guards important vital areas and places also.
Under the command of Shri Binay Kumar Jha, Inspector General BSF, Mizoram & Cachar Frontier, International Border is being guarded by the BSF effectively and all out efforts is made to reduce all type of Border crimes including Drug Trafficking and Cattle smuggling in the Area of Responsibility and to create a sense of security among the border population.
During the year 2022, Mizoram & Cachar Frontier BSF carried out number of major operations and made seizures of various contraband items in the Border area/hinterland which includes 03 Arms/Weapons, 786 of assorted Amn with 03 Magzines, 442 Cattle heads, 3,81,608 nos Yaba Tablets, 12.907 Kgs of Heroin, 34.82 Kgs of Opium, 1479.46 Kgs of Ganja, 1732 bottles of IMFL with total value of Rs. 84.87 crore and apprehended 84 Indian nationals, 32 Bangladeshi nationals and 25 Myanmarese nationals who were found involved in border crimes.
The BSF in addition carried out a number of Civic Action Programmes including Medical Camps, Drug Abuse Awareness Camps, Pre-recruitment training to youths of the border villages, Cleanliness drives, Cycle Rally all along border areas, Yoga Awareness Programmes, Weapon Exhibitions and extending all the helps to villagers during the recent flood in Cachar and Mizoram border areas for the benefits and welfare of border population.
On the occasion of the 58th BSF Raising Day, BSF organized a Barakhana with cultural programme and sports activity at Frontier HQ Masimpur and its all under command Headquarters and invited Ex- BSF Personnel along with all Officers, Sub-ordinate Officers and Other Ranks with their families Sh Binay Kumar Jha, IG BSF extended best wishes to all and felicitated Ex- BSF personnel and families on this occasion.
